James Fisher Builds undertakes both first-fix carpentry and second-fix carpentry and joinery. Please see below for details of what these categories encompass and how James can help you.
First-Fix Carpentry
First-fix is generally all of the stuff you don’t see. Think timber frame shells, internal stud walls, OSB sheathing, floor joists and roofing. In a nutshell, it’s the structural element of the building hidden away behind all the fancy finishes.
Second-Fix Carpentry
Second-fix is what happens once the main body of the building and parts of the interior have been completed. It’s typically the final stage of carpentry - so things like skirting, architraves, internal doors, wall panelling and staircase handrails would fall into this category.
Bespoke Joinery
Bespoke joinery would encompass any storage or units needed uniquely for your homes space. Items such as fitted alcove units, built-in wardrobes and under-stair storage are prime examples of bespoke joinery. Generally made of MDF and painted to suit your home - bespoke units are a great way of maximising your space.
Free-standing Units
If you’re looking for an addition to your home that you may want flexibility in moving, a bespoke free-standing unit could be just the thing. Think bookcases, TV units or coffee tables - unique to your design with the option to move around!
